Visiting Limerick

Travel and Accommodation

The conference will be held in four venues, all within walking distance of each other, in the city centre of Limerick (not on the university campus).

Shannon Airport is closest to Limerick, but international flights are limited (with best connections to and from London). There is a bus service from Shannon airport into Limerick city centre (bus station), Bus Eireann 343, 51 and X51. https://national.buseireann.ie Tickets (8–10 euro) can be bought in the arrivals hall or with the bus driver. Taxis cost about 40 euro into the city centre.

Dublin Airport has the most international connections, and travel to Limerick is easy and convenient. The best option is to go by bus. Eir Eagle (City Link) provides a direct and very comfortable connection from Dublin airport to Limerick city every 2 hours. The non-stop trip 2.5 hours and costs 24 euro one-way, 35 euro return.  http://www.eireagle.com

With departures every half hour, Dublin Coach with their bright green buses provides a more frequent, cheaper but also less comfortable service; change at Red Cow for a connection to Limerick. Travel time around 3 hours, online prices from 17 euro one-way, 30 euro return. http://www.dublincoach.ie

Dublin Coach is a good option to travel from/to Dublin city centre in case you plan to extend your stay in Ireland. Both coach services arrive at Arthur’s Quay in Limerick city centre, only a short walk away from the conference venues and hotels. (The Bus Eireann X12 services to Limerick bus station takes 3.5 hours as it stops multiple times en route.) Rail service between Dublin (Heuston Station) and Limerick (Colbert Station) is regular and comfortable, even if Heuston Station is some distance away from Dublin city centre. Book online; tickets start at 15 euro one-way. Travel time is around 2 hours; most connections require a change of trains at Limerick Junction. https://www.irishrail.ie

From Dublin airport, the 747 bus goes to Heuston Station (via the city centre). In Limerick, Colbert train station is only a short walk away from the LCGA and the other conference venues.

Among the many options for accommodation in the city centre we recommend these:

No. 1 Pery Square is a very comfortable, high-end boutique hotel. It is closest to our conference venues. www.oneperysquare.com
The George Hotel is another very pleasant hotel nearby, just a few minutes’ walk along O’Connell Street. www.georgelimerick.com

The Pier Hotel is convenient and friendly. Still within walking distance (and close to Arthur’s Quay where buses from and to Dublin arrive and depart), it is a favourite with colleagues regularly traveling to Limerick. www.thepierhotellimerick.com

The Bedford Townhouse, Pery’s Hotel, The Limerick City Hotel, The Savoy and The Boutique are other options nearby. The Clayton Hotel, The Strand Hotel and The Absolute Hotel are all a bit further away, just beyond comfortable walking distance.
